Be A “Big”

Be A “Big”

Who are our volunteers?

Each volunteer can bring something new into a child’s life and come from a wide range of careers: accountants, engineers, teachers, doctors, homemakers, firefighters and many more.  You don’t have to be anything but yourself to make a difference in the life of a child.  Both you and your Little will get so much out of this experience and can do so much during everyday lives.

Here’s a list of some simple, everyday activities that could be more fun when you include a child:

Wash a car

·        Mow the grass

·        Talk

·        Listen

·        Bathe your dog

·        Take a walk

·        Cook

How do I volunteer?

Step 1: Learn about getting started

Call 713-271-5683 or complete the online form to begin the application process. A representative from BBBS will contact you.

Step 2: Attend a Mentor Training Session

Sign up for a Training Session after completing an orientation session and schedule an interview appointment. We will also complete a background screening as well as reference checks during this time.

Step 3: Meet your new Little Brother or Sister

Once the match is approved by you, the child and his/her parent or guardian attend a group match evening.  During this session you will meet your Little and set goals for the year ahead.  You will also have an opportunity to meet other new Mentors and share ideas for success.
