I have a busy schedule. Doesn't it take a lot of time to be a Big?

 

Not at all - just four hours a month, a couple of afternoons. What do you like to do on the weekend? You could bring your Little along with you. Our kids aren't looking for an entertainer - they're looking for a friend.

 

What kinds of children are Littles?

 

Our Littles come from all walks of life – they're as diverse as Houston is. What they all share in common is a desire for a friend. There's a unique Little waiting for you!

 

How do I become a Big?

It's easy. Click here, put in your zip code, and fill out an online inquiry. We'll contact you to schedule a face-to-face interview. During that process, we'll also run a background check and interview three of your personal references.

 

How will you find a Little for me?

 

During the application and interview process, there are opportunities to give your preferences. We then search our database to find a child that lives in the same area you do according shared interests and hobbies, and your preferences.

 

Where do I go to meet my Little?

We'll introduce you both at one of our offices. After that, it's up to you and your Little to decide what kinds of things to do together.

 

I've heard that some Bigs mentor at their Little's school. What's that about?

 

That is School-Based Mentoring, and it is an option for volunteers who would like to meet a child at the same time and place each week. School-Based Mentors typically meet during the school day or after school on school grounds for one hour each week.

 

I already have kids. Can I still be a Big Brother?

 

Of course! We have many parents who volunteer as Bigs. In fact, you and your family can be part of what we call a “Big Family” match. It's a chance for your spouse and your kids to see the value of being mentors as well.

 

I've heard about other mentoring programs. Why should I join Big Brothers Big Sisters?

 

Big Brothers Big Sisters is the oldest, largest, and most effective youth mentoring organization in the United States. We believe one-to-one mentoring is the best way to impact a child's life. We take time to carefully match you with a Little who reflects your preferences and interests in order to make a match that creates a lifetime of memories.
